Ashot Suren Piliposyan
Ashot Suren Piliposyan was born on 31 January 1952 in Yerevan in a family of employees. From 1959 to 1969 he studied at Yerevan Secondary School N10 after 26 commissars. From 1970 to 1974 he studied at Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan in the historical-geographical faculty getting a qualification of historian and teacher of history. In 1974-75 he served in Soviet Army. In 1997 he defended the thesis under this theme “The Seals of Armenian Highland within ancient East glyptic system” and got scientific PhD degree of History. In 2004 he defended his doctoral dissertation under headline “Armenian Highland within the sphere of Near East in the historical-cultural conjunctions” /B.C. III-I mil./ and got scientific degree of doctor. From 1976 to 1982 he worked as a scientific worker in the archaeological department of Armenian State Museum of History, than as achief of the department.In 1982-88 he was a director of “Erebuni” museum- history of Yerevan establishment. In 1988-2007 he worked as a senior scientific worker of the early archaeological department of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. Since 1993 up to now he has been working in “Ethnos” ethno-cultural scientific research center as the chief of NGO. In 2007-2009 he worked in “Erebuni” Historical Archaeological Museum-Reserve as a director. In 2009-2011 he was a deputy in theCJSC “Center of Monument Restoration” of the Ministry of Culture of RA in the field of educational activity. From June, 2011 he has been working in the “Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations” NCSO as a deputy in the field of scientific activities.
Ashot Piliposyan was in the staff of American archaeological expeditions participating in the excavation of Mtsbin and Tel Mozan ancient settlements which are located in the Republic of Siria. He was a co-head of Armenian- Russian, Armenian- French cooperative international expeditions. In Armenia he participated in a number of archaeological activities of expeditions, ruled archaeological expeditions. He was a lecturer in Yerevan State University, in Armenian State Pedagogical University. Now he is a professor in YSPU. He is an author of more than 100 articles and 6 books and monographs.
He is married and has a son and a daughter.
