Мinister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Lilit Makunts accompanied by Deputy Ministers Vahe Budumyan, Tigran Galstyan and Nazeni Gharibyan was in “Metsamor” historical-cultural museum-reserve.
The activity and planned programs were introduced to the Мinister of Culture.
Armenian-Polish expedition group held excavations at the territory of Metsamor site for a long period of time. Soon the Polish will arrive to Armenia and this year works will be restarted. Foreign students also come to Armenia every year for gaining professional knowledge. This year their participation in archaeological works is planned as well. Director of “Metsamor” historical-cultural museum-reserve Artavazd Zakyan presented the works of the expedition group, and, in parallel with the screening of “Metsamor’s Observatory” film, told about the achievements of the expedition within last years.
Director of the museum-reserve also touched upon “Curious Archaeology” scientific-educational program, mentioning that the aim of it is to raise interest towards archaeology among schoolchildren. In the temporary exhibitions hall Lilit Makunts was introduced the details of this program.
- Zakyan informed that, for popularizing the scientific achievements in the sphere of archaeology, a seminar entitled “Metsamorian Readings” was held in the museum-reserve. It is also planned to publish scientific volume and flyers concerning Metsamor’s site. English publication will be sold in Poland as well, the proceeds will be used for solving the problems of the museum-reserve.
In the nearest future a manual summarizing the results of Metsamor site’s excavations will be published. The popular scientific version of the publication will be directed to a wider market /in English and Russian languages/.
Lilit Makunts and the people accompanying her, among whom were also Armavir’s Governor Gagik Mirijanyan, Taronik Community Head Armen Khlghatyan made a tour in the territory of the museum-reserve, got acquainted with the exhibition.
“Protection Service” NCSO’s Director Ara Tarverdyan and museum-reserve’s Director Artavazd Zakyan introduced the Minister the most important problem that is the path’s improvement.
A.Tarverdyan mentioned that during the six months of this year only 700 visitors came to see the exclusive samples of the museum. NCSO’s Director assured that in case of the path’s improvement and development of infrastructure the situation will change essentially.
Summarizing the visit, RA Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts mentioned that “Metsamor” is a wonderful museum and so ingoing and outgoing tourism must be developed here.
In her words, the visitors should take any souvenir from the museum-reserve with them. So that direction should also be developed.
The sketches of making souvenirs with the images of exhibits presented in the museum-reserve are processed in NCSO.
As soon as they are ready, NCSO’s Director will introduce them to the Minister of Culture.
