During the excavations carried out in the territory of “Lori Berd (Fortress)” Settlement” Historical and Cultural Reservation there have been revealed a lot of fragments of glazed bowls and plates were. The archaeological material dates back to the XI-XII cc. As stated by Arman Nalbandyan, head of the expedition, this wonderful pottery was found in a semi-circular niche in the territory adjacent to the wall of the fortress which probably was a structure of economic significance.

Arman Nalbandyan: head of the archaeological expedition of the “Historical and Cultural Heritage Research Center” SNCO: “Sometimes they were unearthed side by side and it was obvious that they were in their initial place. Later being covered with a thick layer of soil and rubble they remained unknown for centuries. These magnificent examples of the developed Middle Ages show the high level of cultural development in the fortress of Lori which has its parallels both in Ani and Dvin”.

The discovered pottery has symmetric geometrical and vegetal ornaments with a beautiful combination of subtle colors. There are as well 15 bowls with the images of birds (partridges).

The excavations are carried out in the territory of “Lori Berd (Fortress)” Settlement” Historical and Cultural Reservation by the “Historical and Cultural Heritage Research Center” SNCO (director: Arman Nalbandyan) with a separate grant allocated by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture.
