According to tradition, the fourth feast of the Varaga Cross, dedicated to the Holy Cross, was celebrated with great solemnity on September 25 at the Nor Varagavank monastery in the Tavush region. Before the holiday, a relic of the True Cross was transferred from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to Nor Varagavank. This holiday is national, purely Armenian, and is celebrated only by the Armenian Apostolic Church.<\/p>\n

In connection with the holiday, an All-night vigil is performed, and the next day – the Holy Liturgy. In the fourth century, Saint Hripsime brought to Armenia a relic of the True Cross, and for about 17 centuries it was with our people. Having moved from Varagavank of historical Armenia, a relic has been in the \u201cNor Varagavank\u201d monastery for about 400 years.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

On the day of the Holy Cross of Varaga, pilgrims from different parts of Armenia come here and return to their homes transformed.<\/p>\n

“Nor Varagavank” or the Anapat Monastery Complex is located 3.5 km southwest of the village of Varagavan, Tavush region. This architectural complex was once the spiritual centre of the Vahram dynasty. It was built by Kyurikian Dukes of New Berd, David and his son Vasak.<\/p>\n

The interior of the church is distinguished by moderate architectural decoration, and the exterior is decorated with various bas-reliefs. Different botanical and geometric figures stand out: trees of life, humanoid figures, birds, etc. The general design of the entrance was influenced by the 12th century porch of Ani.<\/p>\n
