EXHIBITION DEVOTED TO THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF AYVAZOVKI’S BIRTH

An exhibition named “Born as a mortal, leaving immortal memory” was opened in “Zvartnoc” historical-cultural museum-reserve devoted to the 200th anniversary of Hovhannes Ayvazovski’s birth. The reprintings of the famous canvases (“The ninth wave”, “The black sea”, “The beach”) were demonstrated.

The guides told the biography of Hovhannes Ayvazovski in English, Russian and Armenian, giving some details about his works and most famous canvases. As usual, “The ninth wave”, which has been included in the list of the best 10 sea-scapes, was in the center of the visitor’s attention. “The ninth wave” shows the unequal fight of man against nature, but however the author has not forgotten about positivism by painting the sun in the horizon”, this is how Larisa Harutyunyan, the head of the department of scientific researches and funding works introduced the canvas.

Coming to Ayvazovski’s “The black sea” she quoted the words of Russian painter Ivan Kromski: “We were astonished by the meaning and high poetry of the painting”.
