EVENT DEDICATED TO THE DEVOTEE OF ARMENIAN HISTORY AND CULTURE LAVRENTI BARSEGHYAN

On December 27, at 10:00 a.m. by the initiative of NCSO and YSPU event devoted to the 80th birthday anniversary of one of the devotees of Armenian history and culture Lavrenti Barseghyan. At first a cabinet will be opened after him and further in the same faculty a temporary exhibition will be presented, in which the private photos and belongings of L. Barseghyan are included. At 12:00 “The devotee of Armenian history and culture” symposium will begin. Lavrenti Barseghyan’s friends and students will deliver speeches. Among them are RA’s ethnographic institute’s specialist Seda Devjyan, archaeologist Frina Babayan, deputy director of NCSO Liana Gevorgyan, RA’s culture minister’s adviser  Serjik Araqelyan and others.

Thanks to his efforts in 1988 museum-reserve’s united board of administrators was formed, the successor of which is “Protection service” NCSO. He also leaded the reconstructions of Zvartnoc and Garni temples and Erebuni castle. The house-museum of Hovhannes Tumanyan was reconstructed by his initiative. He used to be the director of a number of museums, including the museum of genocide and Armenia’s national ethnographic museum. He is the author of a number of exhibitions. In 2002 he was awarded “Fridtyof Nansen” international fund’s golden medal, and “Movses Khorentatsi” medal in 2003.
