LAVRENTI ABOVYAN. THE DEVOTEE OF MONUMENTS

“Protection service” NCSO continues presenting the devotees of the field of monuments reservation. One of them is Lavrenti Abovyan, born in 1947 in Tbilisi, in the family of stonemason Muradkhan. The family of Abovyans have always been related to the Armenian culture and national values.

Young Lavrenti Abovyan moved to Erevan after turning 18, entered YSU’s faculty of history for studying the documental pages of Armenian history. During the years of education he was marked for excellent progress and purposefulness. After graduating he started working in Erebuni museum. The young scientific researcher contributed to the implementation of the organization’s projects with his rich knowledge background. Since 1985 Lavrenti Abovyan has worked in “Zvartnoc” monument-museum, now known as “Zvartnoc” historical-cultural museum-reserve. For almost half a century he has worked in the field of reservation and popularization of monuments with great love and dedication. For him the most important thing is the reservation of monument and the communication with the visitors, through transmission of interesting and substantial information. During the years of work in “Zvartnoc” historical-cultural museum-reserve he has come into contact with many people. Memories take back to distant past.

In his words one day by the end of the working day His Holiness Vazgen I Catholicos of all Armenians and Patriarch Pimen II visited the museum unexpectedly. Lavrenti Abovyan told the respectable guests about the museum. Even today he remembers that day with excitement, as he had the fate to get the blessing of two catholicoses, the power of which he feels till today.

Lavrenti Abovyan has bright memories especially from Erebuni museum’s director Suren Narimanyanc, whose advice, working skills and knowledge Abovyan transmits to the youth today.

Highlighting the importance of cultural events held in the monument territories, classical music, concert, open classes, etc., L. Abovyan mentioned that they are also inclined to popularize historical-cultural heritage. As an ending he added that he can’t imagine his life without Zvartnoc…
