Within the framework of the “New Life to the Forgotten Historical and Cultural Heritage of Armenia” project aimed at “revitalizing” historical and cultural values of Armenian museums, staff of the Preservation service SNCO, several months ago, visited the museums of Vayots Dzor, Lori, Gegharkunik, Tavush and Armavir provinces.
Despite the presence of rich collections, there are no restoration laboratories in the provincial museums, and cultural values remain in museum storages, sometimes being represented in an inapropriate manner during permanent and temporary exhibitions.
SNCO staff members Tigran Zakaryan, Astghik Simonyan, and Nerses Mamikonyan transferred 15-unit archeological objects from permanent exhibitions and storages of Yeghegnadzor, Gegharkunik, Lori-Pambak geological, Ijevan historical-geological, and Etchmiadzin historical-ethnographical museums to the restoration laboratory of the SNCO. As a result of long and hard work, archeological objects such as bowls, amphoras, jugs, bracelets, dagger, arrow, crock, flowerpot, pitcher, necklace have been cleaned, restored, and returned to the museums.
The project, which started at the end of last year, has already been completed. As a result of the work, a catalog of archeological subjects has been published for archaeologists, museums, art critics, historians, and those interested in historical and cultural heritage.
Copies of the published catalogs will be provided to museums, regional libraries, and scientific institutions.
