Russian archaeologist, art historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences Anatoly Jacobson was born in 1906 in Leningrad. First time he came to Armenia in 1929, as part of an expedition led by Joseph Orbeli, and in 1936 he participated in the leadership during the excavations. Then toured the whole territory of Armenia, learned many valuable monuments of medieval architectural thoroughly studied the art of Armenia.

His prolific scientific activity and interests along with the versatile, Anatoly Jacobson also seriously deal of cultural nation. He is the author of several monographs, also touched upon the Armenian architectural monuments of the Crimea and the Caucasus. This interest goes back to his student years, and for his participation in excavations of Amberd was wonderful scientific experience, he also played a decisive role as a follower of Nicholas Marr and Hovsep Orbeli school, the way of further interest in archeology and culture.

Health condition, unfortunately, in the last years of his life does not allow him to visit Armenia again and direct participation in international conferences and meetings devoted to Armenian art and architecture. However, until the last day of his life he continued to deal with the interpretation of architecture, also appeared at international conferences and presented papers on the art, they are published in scientific journals.
