Ara Tarverdyan the director of Protection Service NCSO, together with his deputy Karen Pahlevanyan visited the monument territories of Vayots Dzor and learnt the problems concerning protection, accompanied by Melanya Dovlatyan, the head of Vayots Dzor regional service.

An entry of animals to Spitakavor monastery (state index 9.15.4) which is located 7 km far from Vernashen community, has been minuted recently. The responsibles of the regional service had immediately undertaken sanitary cleanings of the monument’s territory. NCSO’s Director learnt the details of the situation in the territory and discussed all possible ways of solving the problem.

The above mentioned territory is planned to be fenced prescribed by law. One of Eghegnadzor’s residents expressed his readiness of financial support. The fence will exclude the entry of animals to the 14th century building.

On the western edge of Eghegis community is located double-shaped, basilica-type burial St. Astvatsatsin Church. According to the head of the regional service the roof of the church needs to be repaired, as rainwaters endanger the order of the church.

Ara Tarverdyan visited Arates monastery as well and got acquainted with the problems concerning the reservation of that monument. Melanya Dovlatyan mentioned that once a calculation and numbering of stones was done. This medieval Armenian monument consists of several chapels,

St. Sion, St. Astvatsatsin churches and two church-porches. It is suggested that the monument was founded in the 7th century, although the oldest information refers to 11th century.

The best evidence of Jewish community’s cultural heritage in Armenia is the Jewish graveyard on the left shore of Eghegis (1.5 thousand km.). Ara Tarverdyan learnt about the details concerning the problems of preservation of this territory. It is worth being mentioned that Ara Tarverdyan and Rima Varjapetyan, the head of the Jewish community in Armenia recently discussed question concerning the fencing and renovation of the graveyard.
The working group visited the territory in Hermon community recently acquired by NCSO, which needs to be renovated. It is planned to become a scientific center, with a museum of rock pictures next to it. More than 5000 rock pictures are registered in the region.

Ara Tarverdyan discussed some other questions about the above mentioned initiative with the head of regional service.
