The excavations carried out in the territory of “Lori Berd (Fortress)” Settlement” Historical and Cultural Reservation provide remarkable materials.
Besides the clay, bone, glass, and metal objects found in the territory, stone finds are also of great importance.
During the excavations and exploration of the territory, numerous fragments of stone tools such as hatchels and millstones have been found in different parts of the reservation. There are also many fragments of pillars and architectural details.
The fragments of a pillar dating back to the 7th century with images of an isosceles cross on its sides are especially exceptional.
Particularly noteworthy are the fragments of khachkars and tombstones which are not only in the soil layer but also in the walls and stone piles. Some fragments of the magnificent khachkars typical of the 12th -13th centuries are inscribed.
The recently found fragment of tuff khachkar with a gorgeous rosette carved on it stands out.
Earlier during the excavations there had been found a great number of archaeological objects including plain and glazed pottery, pipes, coins, beads, jewelry, bathroom faucets, arrowheads and decorative bricks.
Various architectural details have been revealed in the territory of the wall and the two baths such as hypocaust floors of the baths, pipelines of the water supply system, reservoirs and so on. It all gives us an insight about the structures and structural features of the period.
The excavations are carried out by the “Historical and cultural heritage research center” SNCO (director: Arman Nalbandyan) with a separate grant allocated by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture.
