Excavations have been conducted in the territory of Saint Hripsime Church of Barabatum district in the Kapan community (Syunik marz).
Before starting the excavations the outside of the church was cleared of vegetation. At present excavations are being carried out which will be followed by the restoration and strengthening of the church.
In the northern part, there have been opened burials the external signs of which such as tombstones or gravestones have not been preserved. Up to now, there have been opened five burials which, after thorough excavations, will be taken for anthropological study.
The most interesting find is the part of the silver tin – a nice piece of jewelry on the obverse of which a portrait has been preserved and on the reverse, there is a manuscript which is read as SB.
The excavations are being carried out by the “Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations” SNCO of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
