POMEGRANATE AND GRAPE PATTERNS IN THE MEDIEVAL ARMENIAN ARCHITECTURE. EXHIBITION OF PHOTOS IN ARARAT REGION

The Regional Service of Ararat together with the Department of methodological activities and exhibitions NCSO organized a photo exhibition entitled “Pomegranate and grape patterns in the medieval Armenian architecture” in Vedi School of Fine Arts. The exhibition is about the symbolic presence of pomegranate and grape in the history of medieval Armenian architecture. The exhibition included measurements and materials kept in the funds of the NCSO (25 graphs and 15 photos), St. Cross Church’s photos of Akhtamar provided by Samvel Karapetyan and archaeologist Boris Gasparyan’s materials. The opening ceremony was attended by students of the School of Fine Arts in painting and sculpture classes, Director Hrayr Gorgoyan and school teachers. An opening speech was made by the Head of the Regional Service Roman Karapetyan. He spoke about the current state of preservation of the cultural heritage of Armenia and in particular the cultural heritage of Ararat Region. He urged the youth to be more compassionate in the preservation of national monuments. Deputy Head of the Regional Service of Ararat Anahit Dallakyan gave a lecture on the theme “Pomegranate and grape patterns in the medieval Armenian architecture”. “The images of vine and pomegranate are widespread in medieval Armenian architecture and in general in the Armenian culture and are beloved patterns which is perceived as a national symbol”, said A. Dallakyan. Entitled “Pomegranate and grape patterns in the medieval Armenian architecture” photo exhibition will run until October 21, 2016.
