EXCAVATIONS STILL CONTINUE IN ARTSAKH

One of the functions of ” Preservation of Historical envirenment ” NSCO of Ministry of Economy of Artsakh is to conduct excavations in the area of protected sites. Large-scale archaeological excavations were carried out from 2005in Dikranagerd earlier in Azokh cave, excavations began in Hadrut region. In recent years, as required, archaeological excavations were carried out from the walls, near Artsvashen community of Kashatagh, Martakert region Amaras monastery New Haykajour and community areas.

Artsakh Republic on “State Service of Historical Environment Protection Department” s deputy director for scientific work briefly Nzhdeh Yeranyan presents a result of Tigranaketi excavations. “Since the monument has multiple layers, the oldest of the ancient artifacts are detected by the medieval objects, ceramics, hnamardabanakan items, coins, various tools. Judging by the majority of the studied European countries to move anthropological material. After studying and restoration of historic Tigranakert archeological artifacts permanently displayed in the museum, while others are stored at the Center’s funds and are presented in the temporary exhibitions. ”

Azokh excavations were made in Soviet times. The archeology and anthropology are important archaeological sites in the region, which allows us to study the movements of ancient Armenian Highland.

Tanya King led the 2002 expedition extensive international archaeologists excavating in Azokh. Chkhatarvats entries are found, as well as numerous artifacts, including tools and animal remains from the prehistoric era. Azokh findings after studying the cave in Europe and returned to join the “State Service of Historical Environment Protection Department” s funds in Artsakh Republic. The study findings suggest that people lived in this historical area of about two million years ago. Azokh cave finds are on display in various museums of Artsakh, temporary exhibition, in NSCO`s building.

According to Njdeh Yeranyan archaeological excavations are done funded by the Government of the Republic of Artsakh. This year the excavations continue in Dikranagerd, New Karmiravan village of Martakert region.In 2016 were found in the New Karmiravan BC I millennium anthropomorphic steles.

” Service for Protection of Historical Environment ” NSCO`s director expressed hope that this year will be able to continue the excavations in Azokh cave.

Besides Tigranakert, in two archaeological sides will work international expeditions.
