POLISH ARCHAEOLOGISTS FILMED-SCANED TERRITORY OF METSAMOR

Expeditions of Institute of Archeology from Warsaw University are working not only in Metsamor , but also in Artashat. The second part of the expedition also studied the ancient capital Artashat this year, was discovered Troyanos`s Latin inscription from the 1970s, in which speaks about Roman legion`s leave in Artashat. The protocol was published, but its location has not been studied thoroughly. Polish archaeologists are interested in the facts, because if the legion parked near Artashat, the area should have been well-preserved remains of the camp-stay. The second Polish expedition recently worked in this sector. Shoot-through special devices to scan the area from above, which enabled them to more accurately locate the remains of the structure.

As far as Armenian-Polish cooperation is firm, the Polish side proposed Metsamor sites, including the citadel, excavated urban district, south-eastern slope of the hill and the tomb to carry out such shootings. NCSO`s scientist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ashot Piliposyan thinks the part where excavations have not yet been filming the opportunity to get some information about underground structures. “This work gives us the opportunity to work more productively in a specific area and conclude that some of the archaeological remains of structures can be saved. With the help of that study in autumn 2017 Metsamor`s Armenian-Polish archaeological expedition will work efficiently in urban neighbourhood and tomb “said A.Piliposyan.
