KARO GHAFADARYAN’S CONTRIBUTION IN THE SPHERES OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND MUSEUM STUDIES IS INVALUABLE

During the conference organized by the “Protection service” NCSO devoted to the 110th birth anniversary of famous archaeologist, historian and museum expert Karo Ghafadaryan the devotees of the sphere have appraised Ghafadaryan’s invaluable scientific heritage.

It’s not accidental that “From Khosrov Kotak to Karo Ghafadaryan” was selected as a title of the conference, as the prominent scientist’s scientific heritage cannot be described briefly. If Khosrov Kotak once founded Dvin, Ghafadaryan discovered the old capital of Armenia for us and for the international public.

“Without trying to obscure the other scientists of that period, I want to highlight the very fact that Ghafadaryan’s contribution in the sphere of science is just invaluable, mentioned Ara Tarverdyan in his speech. Talking about the head of Dvin’s expedition, the director of NCSO added that the predecessors of the archaeological school founded by Ghafadaryan are today’s most famous scientists and the reporters of the conference.

Murad Hasratyan, professor and doctor of architecture in his turn added that Ghafadaryan was a historian who had devoted more than 5 years of his life to the collecting, editing and publishing of Toros Toramanyan’s heritage. His scientific works have been published during the Great patriotic war which means that even during those difficult times Toramanyan’s heritage was appreciated.

In Karo Ghafadaryan’s son Koryun Ghafadaryan’s words the archaeologists of Dvin’s expedition work with the same love and enthusiasm till now, as the monument still needs be researched.

Hayk Avetisyan, the head of YSU’s department of archaeology and ethnography, NCSO’s scientist secretary Ashot Piliposyan, archaeologists Frina Babayan and Nyura Hakobyan, ethnographer Levon Abrahamyan and others also introduced their reports.

In 1936-1937 “Zvartnoc” museum’s building was founded by the initiative of Karo Ghafadaryan, and the first scientific exhibition was opened also by him.

From 1940-1964 he was the head of the national museum of history of RA. He also considered to be museum exhibitions’ scientific projects’ founder.
