THE ANTHROPOLOGIST OF NCSO TOOK PART IN THE EXCAVATIONS OF ARTSAKH

The leading researcher of NCSO’s scientific research department, anthropologist Hasmik Simonyan took part in the preliminary works of cleaning, researching of anthropological excavations implemented in  Hadrut region’s “Togh magistral edifice” historical-cultural museum-reserve, by the invitation of “Historical environment’s protection service” NCSO under the authority of the ministry of economics of Artsakh republic.

The anthropological materials have been opened in the southern part of St Hovhannes church, located in the territory of the reserve, during the excavations next to the church. The latter have been opened similar to Christian burials, the skeletons buried on their back, in west-eastern orientation.

According to Hasmik Simonyan from the preliminary research of the excavated skeletons, it turned out that they all are average males. The gender-age descriptions were done according to the seat and skull bones. Each skeleton’s spinal vertebra’s overload, age disturbances as well as dental and pediatric definitions have also been given.

For further researches DNA’s and C 14 samples were taken from each skeleton. The materials will further be lab-inspected.
