QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF MONUMENTS WAS DISCUSSED WITH REGIONAL GOVERNORS OF ARMAVIR AND KOTAYK

Regional governors play one of the most important roles in the prevention of several issues related to the preservation of monuments and development of social responsibility within the community.

With this purpose, Director of Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations, SNCO, Ara Tarverdyan, and Deputy Director Khoren Grigoryan had a number of meetings with the regional governors, the main aim of which was to introduce the officials to the activities of the company, to give a detailed information on the number of monuments in the particular region, to discuss the issues related to the subject of preservation of those monuments, and find the best solutions possible.

Meetings were organized with Hambardzum Matevosyan, the governor of Armavir, and Romanos Petrosyan, the governor of Kotayk.

“Frequently, problems arise during the process of land distribution, or illegal funerals are being organized on the territories of graveyards which, in reality, are considered to be monuments. In order to exclude such cases, the Directorate of SNCO will provide the governors with a basis of legislative information, as well as booklets containing a detailed description of all the monuments present in the region,” said Ara Tarverdyan, Director of the SNCO, during the meeting with the governor of Armavir.

Two magnificent and historically significant monuments that are located not too far from the capital Yerevan, “Zvartnots” Historical-Cultural Museum-Reservation, and “Metsamor” Historical-Archeological Museum-Reservation need to become even more active and attractive in order to create a desire for foreign citizens to come and visit the places. The route of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzian and Sardarapat memorial can be expanded so that it would include “Metsamor” and “Zvartnots.” According to the Director of SNCO, both of the museum-reservations are unique in their purpose and meaning, and they will definitely be interesting for foreign visitors.

While talking about the possible development program for “Metsamor” Museum-Reservation, Ara Tarverdyan mentioned that the museum has the potential of becoming an important educational-scientific center. Director of the SNCO also talked about the archeological site of Armavir. In his opinion, if the monument would get a status of a reservation, with joint efforts, several programs would be brought to life that would create even larger publicity for the monument and increase the interest of visitors towards it. Hambardzum Matevosyan, the regional governor of Armavir, also pointed out the importance of preservation of cultural heritage and improving the cultural life of the community, stressed the construction of the road leading to “Metsamor” Museum-Reservation. As the governor mentioned, the subject is under strict supervision, and construction works will begin soon.

One of the main topics of the meeting with the regional governor of Kotayk, Romanos Petrosyan, was the need of getting as much practical work and effort as possible from the governors related to the topic of preservation of monuments. Director of the SNCO talked about one of the most famous sites for tourists, “Garni” Historical-Cultural Museum-Reservation, and about “Bjni Castle,” located in the same region, which recently got a status of a reservation. According to Director of SNCO, a number of projects will be organized in order to attract more visitors to this unique and gorgeous monument. However, the most critical issue is still related to the construction of roads. As Ara Tarverdyan mentioned, excavation works will also be organized on the territory of “Bjni Castle.” The idea of becoming part of the process and joining the expedition team will definitely interest the visitors. According to Tarverdyan, having a huge number of tourists in the territory would also affect the life of the village by making it even more bouncing.

From his side, regional governor Romanos Petrosyan expressed willingness to continue the cooperation and talked about strategies for the development of local tourism.
