At the “Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserves” SNCO, we continue to present interesting samples of our archaeological fund. This time we will tell you about these porcelain bowls, created during the reign of the Chinese Ming dynasty in the 14-17 centuries.
Chinese porcelain bowls were discovered in the early 1980s during the restoration of the Gndevank monastery, which is located in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia and dates back to the 10th century. Dark and light blue patterns on a milky surface, as well as hieroglyphs depicted on the pallet, indicate that these bowls were created during the reign of the Chinese Ming dynasty in the 14-17th centuries.
The found Chinese porcelain bowls indicate that even in difficult times for the Armenian people, merchants continued to trade with the countries of the Far East, using the late medieval Silk Road transit road.
