An exhibition of archaeological objects (excavated from 1960 to 2014) has been opened at «Metsamor» Historical-Archeological Museum. The collection contains more than 28000 items but only 12000 are presented. The exhibition attended by participants of the international conference entitled «The chronicle of half century excavations in Metsamor».
Ashot Piliposyan (deputy in the field of scientific activities) of «Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations» NCSO mentioned the effort made by archaeologists Emma Khanzadyan,Koryun Mkrtchyan and astronomer Elma Parsamyan.
«They have done invaluable work the best treatment of which is the opening of the exhibition. We have to remember their great effort. The Museum-Reservation had many directors and each of them had its own effort to the creation and development of the museum», said A. Piliposyan.
Unfortunately, Emma Khanzadyan and Koryun Mkrtchyan are not here today. Elma Barsamian said she was very happy to attend the event, which gave a new breath to Metsamor.
Seyran Arakelyan (deputy on the Economic Affairs and the Systematization of the Activities of the branches of the «Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum Reservations») announced the decree of the Minister of Culture to award Vahram and Hakob Mkrtchyan, the sons of Metzamor Museum founder Koryun Mkrtchyan with «Grigor Narekatsi» Medal.
The Minister of Culture awarded Azat Harutyunyan (former head of the Museum-Reservation) with diploma for notable effort to the preservation of cultural heritage.
After viewing the exhibition an excursion organized for participants. Ashot Piliposyan the co-leader of the Armenian–Polish joint archaeological expedition presented the activities carried out in the last three years.
In the interview with journalist A. Piliposyan said that Metsamor has been populated from the 5th century BC to the 18th century AD.
The deputy in the field of scientific activities of «Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations» NCSO also referred to some unique exhibits (particularly tin things).
«Tin items found in the excavation are unique in the Middle Esat. The «Frog-shaped weight mascot» (16th century BC) (one example of which is kept in the British Museum) as well as the seal of Egyptian King Thutmose III»,-said A. Piliposyan.
