“” Protection service” branch “Arpi” Natural Reserve employees organized an open class titled “ Cultural Genocide” for 6th grade high school students.
History teacher Lusine Sargsyan introduced students the role of the Church in the life of people and head of the branch Shake Gharakhanyan spoke about cultural genocide and it`s consequences.
“Genocide was not only human loss. Turks also destroyed Armenian cultural monuments, churches and monasteries, thousands of manuscripts. Number of Armenian churches was more than 2,000 throughout the Ottoman empire. Most of our cultural heritage has been destroyed, burned down or turned into mosques, “said in her speech Shake Gharakhanyan. According to her, the destruction of cultural monuments, followed by the place-names as the Young Turks trace of Armenians on Armenian land, not allowing a goal. Summing up the Open Class Reserve she said that cultural genocide continues to this day.
Schoolchildren were familiarized to some of the cultural monuments of Western Armenia by photos.
